Protect and Restore

In addition to our core landscape design work, we also offer conservation consultancy and land management services. We bring extensive experience in site management, land restoration and biodiversity conservation.

Protect and Restore is a consultancy arm of Mandhari, which is dedicated to the protection, restoration and improved management of land in Kenya.

Our focus is on benefiting both people and biodiversity by supporting landowners in improving the management of their sites.

Through our expertise, commitment and strong partnerships, we strive to create a sustainable future for land and environment in Kenya, and provide opportunities for landowners to engage in this mission.

Flagship projects

We currently manage two 25 acre sites in Kilifi County for biodiversity conservation and sustainable wealth creation for local people.

Our Gede site protects a patch of natural indigenous forest which provides habitat for the endangered Golden-Rumped Elephant Shrew.
We employ people from the surrounding area to protect the forest, collect seed, and propagate native trees and other commercial plants.

At our Kiembeni site, we have restored a native forest in an area surrounded by maize fields.
We employ local families to propagate a range of native plants, including cycads, desert rose and Mpingo.

What we offer

We provide a range of services and solutions to support landowners in improving the management of their site, including land assessment and planning, capacity building and training, land management support for biodiversity conservation and community benefits, and monitoring and adaptive management.

Our services can be part of formal Environmental Impact Assessments and remediation proposals. Projects can be designed with the aim to achieve carbon credits or biodiversity credits. We can offer these services in a variety of contexts, from rural to urban, including urban greening for biodiversity net gain.
